Automation set to become fundamental to public sector transformation

Latest Survey Reveals Robots on the Rise!

Achieving   Digital Transformation Through Automation:
Latest Whitepaper and Sefton Council Case-Study

In a recent survey of 134 public sector decision makers, 53 per cent of respondents said their departments had explored the use of automation technology over the last 12 months.

Given the cost and time reductions that Robotic Process Automation (RPA) can deliver when processing labour-intensive back-office tasks, there’s little surprise the technology holds particular appeal for local authorities, which have been hit by the twin pressures of budget cuts and complex welfare reforms.

RPA uses software to replicate a wide range of administrative processes, where speed and accuracy are key. It completes rule-based tasks by interacting with existing software and platforms in the same ways that humans do.

Working in partnership with Sefton Council, Arvato has proven that RPA can help process administrative tasks accurately, 100% auditable, with substantial speed and efficiency gains.

The project successfully replicated a number of core transactional processes varying in complexity, from signing people up for Council Tax direct debit payments to processing discount applications, achieving impressive results:

  • Council Tax direct debit payment input times have been reduced by 80%. For example, 800 direct debits received in a three-week period were completed in 19 hours compared to a 92-hour manual process
  • Cost per transaction was cut from £1 to 20p
  • Single person discount handling times have been halved

In its latest whitepaper, Arvato provides an overview of what Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is, which benefits it can deliver and how to approach an automation project.
