The Minister for Housing and Regeneration, Carl Sargeant, has outlined the improvements communities in Grangetown can look forward to thanks to £1 million of Welsh Government regeneration funding. 

Grangetown is one of seven areas across Wales to benefit from the Vibrant and Viable Places tackling poverty fund, which will look to focus on investing in and improving town and district centres for the local community.

The Minister said:

“Town and district centres play a vital role in community life and this Welsh Government funding will help bring about improvements in the areas that need it the most.

“Grangetown can look forward to improvements to commercial buildings within the shopping area, thanks to a grant scheme designed to brighten up, clean up and add character to the buildings.

“The tackling poverty fund will also be used to improve the Clare Road and Penarth Road area, making it more pedestrian-friendly with improved pavements, public spaces, landscaping, safe crossing points and enhanced signage. Other improvements to the area will include the creation of a new community hub - offering a range of services, including support to local unemployed people  in helping them to find work.  

“All of this is designed to make the district centre area of Grangetown more appealing and accessible with the overall aim of improving footfall and giving local businesses and communities a boost.”

Councillor Peter Bradbury, Cabinet Member for Community Development, Co-operatives and Social Enterprise for the City of Cardiff Council said today,

"This is great news. The Welsh Government grant will  help the Council progress its plans to revitalise the heart of Grangetown, bringing forward a new community hub, improving local shops, and making it a better and safer place for businesses and the community. We look forward to working in partnership with the Welsh Government to deliver this much needed regeneration programme
