£1 million regeneration projects for Tredegar announced

The Minister for Housing and Regeneration, Carl Sargeant, has outlined the improvements communities in Tredegar can look forward to thanks to £1 million of Welsh Government regeneration funding.

Tredegar is one of seven areas across Wales to benefit from the Vibrant and Viable Places Tackling Poverty Fund, which will look to focus on improving town centres for the local community.

The Minister said:

“Town centres play a vital role in community life and this Welsh Government funding will help bring about improvements in the areas that need it the most.

“In Tredegar, part of the fund will be matched by Heritage Lottery funding to renovate a number of historic buildings in the area.

“Other improvements will see a building turned into a community resource for Time Banking Wales, improvements to roofs, windows and boilers for selected homes and a multi purpose new community support facility at Aneurin Bevan House, amongst others.

“These regeneration projects will mean more jobs, better facilities and reduced bills for those on low incomes. It’s another example of how the Welsh Government, through local authorities, is helping to make a real difference to communities by providing for the needs of local people.”

Councillor Graham Bartlett, Executive Member Economic Strategy and Development said:

"This is great news for Tredegar businesses and residents. We welcome and look forward to the delivery of this exciting town centre regeneration project and the boost it will provide for the local economy"
