£15.8million to help keep our streets safe

The Welsh Government is providing a further £15.8million in order that the 500 additional Community Support Officers (CSOs) it funds can continue to make our communities safer, Local Government and Government Business Minister, Lesley Griffiths AM announced today.

The Minister said:

"Our decision to fund the recruitment and deployment of an additional 500 CSOs has proved very popular.

"Communities across Wales value the Welsh Government funded CSOs. I am, therefore, pleased funding is now in place so the CSOs can continue to help keep our streets safer.

"CSOs are a highly visible part of our communities and the work they do engaging with people, providing reassurance and tackling anti-social behaviour is crucial."

In addition to the funding going to the four Welsh police forces, the Welsh Government will also give an extra £257,000 to continue to fund seven CSOs with British Transport Police and part fund a Police Inspector post based in North Wales over a three-year period.
