2% decline in ocean oxygen - WWF comment

Dr. Stephen Cornelius, WWF chief adviser on climate change, commented on news of a decline of more than 2 percent in ocean oxygen content worldwide between 1960 and 2010

“The world’s oceans are changing rapidly demonstrating the need to take urgent action on climate change.

Global emissions are reducing the oxygen levels in our oceans, and could detrimentally affect marine species across the planet.

The size of wildlife populations have already declined by almost two thirds since 1970 due to a range of threats, and if we are to prevent further declines in our oceans we need to invest in a clean, low-carbon future.”
