250 companies sign up for Parc Adfer Meet the Buyer event - £14m of supply chain opportunities

More than 250 companies have registered to attend a Meet the Buyer event today (Tuesday October 20) that will highlight up to £14million worth of opportunities to supply the Parc Adfer energy recovery facility planned for Deeside Enterprise Zone.

The all-day event, supported by the Welsh Government, is being hosted by Wheelabrator Technologies Inc,  in partnership with its civil engineering contractor Sisk Group and JFE Engineering Group (Baumgarte GmbH) which will be delivering the mechanical and electrical packages for Parc Adfer.

Wheelabrator, a leading energy from waste company with headquarters in New Hampshire, USA, was granted planning permission to develop the facility in June this year and the three year construction phase is due to start next year.

More than 250 companies have registered for the event at the Coleg Cambria Conference Centre. The event will cover opportunities in construction and civil engineering as well as ancillary and site support services.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart said:

“This is a major project for North Wales and we want as many Welsh businesses as possible to benefit from the investment. It’s therefore good news to see that so many businesses are attending to-days event to engage with the developers and partners to identify potential business opportunities.”

Gary Aguinaga, Managing Director, UK Operations, for Wheelabrator added:

“Following planning permission being awarded to Parc Adfer earlier in this year, we want to ensure that we give local businesses the opportunity to bid for the many supply chain packages that this project will require. We’re looking forward to finding out more about the depth of talent and experience that businesses in North Wales can offer the Parc Adfer project.”

Delegates will have the opportunity to meet representatives of the three companies to discuss their skills and experience and find out more about opportunities for the supply chain across Deeside and North Wales.

Parc Adfer is being procured by five local authorities (the North Wales Residual Waste Treatment Project*) led by Flintshire County Council, with Welsh Government financial support, advice and assistance.

Over the plant’s lifetime of 25 years, more than £30m will be spent on goods and services to support day to day operations, with a community benefit totalling £230,000 a year will be made available by Wheelabrator and the partnership of authorities once Parc Adfer is operational.

It will assist local authorities recycling levels to achieve the Welsh government’s target of 70% recycling with only 5% to landfill by 2025.
