£9m Energy Catalyst Funding Competition Open for Applications

Round 4 of Innovate UK's Energy Catalyst funding competition is now open, providing funding for solutions to current energy challenges

Innovate UK today announced that Round 4 of the Energy Catalyst funding competition is now open, making available £9 Million in funding for projects that address current concerns for the UK energy industry.

Proposed projects should address the three major challenges facing the energy industry:

· low carbon

· security of supply

· affordability

The fund will be divided amongst the 3 types of award available:

· early-stage award - technical feasibility

· mid-stage awards - technology development

· late-stage awards - pre-commercial technology validation

The Energy Catalyst is targeted at speeding up commercialisation of UK energy innovation, and was set up in 2013 by Innovate UK, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). This year also saw DFID joining as a co-funder, with the budget for this £9m provided by DFID and EPSRC jointly.

The deadline for registration is dependent on the award, with the earliest closing date on 8 June 2016.
