Active push for EU reform across Member States and EU institutions

CBI Brussels Director, Sean McGuire attended a meeting with Frans Timmermans, First Vice-President for Better Regulation in the European Commission, and several CBI small and medium-sized member companies.

The Vice-President was in listening mode asking for clear examples of where EU legislation created administrative burdens on SMEs. CBI members stressed the importance of comprehensive impact assessments, together with a think small first approach to any proposed legislation.

The CBI has placed significant focus on the reduction of administrative burdens in our reform agenda for Europe.

One of the Commissioner’s main goals is to establish an independent Impact Assessment Board, which would better assess the real impact of EU legislation.

Timmermans is currently developing a proposal to reach an agreement on Inter-Institutional Better Law-making, which is expected to be presented in the spring.
