Allocation of papers accepted in lieu of tax

The family and estate papers of the Chester family of Chicheley (12th-20th centuries) has been accepted in lieu of tax by the government.

Notable material includes:

  • architectural drawings of Chicheley Hall attributed to Francis Smith of Warwick
  • two series of medieval deeds dating from c1135
  • 17th and 18th century household accounts
  • the shrieval papers of Henry Chester, including letters from the Privy Council concerning the collection of Ship Money, 1636-1640

Any library, record office or similar institution in the United Kingdom interested in being allocated the papers should contact:
