Annual report and accounts 2015 to 2016

Yesterday (Monday, 11 July) we published our annual report and accounts for 2015 to 2016.

We have a statutory obligation to produce an audited annual report and accounts and lay the report before parliament.

Our role is to fund skills training for further education in England. We support over 1,000 colleges, other training organisations and employers with more than £3 billion of funding each year.

For the financial year 2015 to 2016, we effectively managed over £3.47 billion of government funding and our significant achievements included:

  • supported 5.7 million learners, including supporting over 500,000 people to gain a level 2 qualification through the 2007 to 2015 ESF programme

  • established a new delivery network of 21 higher education institutions to deliver higher apprenticeships

  • completed over 2,500 assessments on colleges and other training organisations to assess their financial stability to deliver SFA funding

  • over 4.2 million GCSE results and 1.7 million A/AS-level results were loaded into LRS – this is a 13% increase on last year

  • 30,084 new apprenticeships were pledged by employers as part of National Apprenticeship Week 2016 (14 to 18 March)

  • designated over 2,400 qualifications as eligible for an advanced learner loan

  • the National Careers Service gave more than 770,000 individuals careers information and advice to help them enter learning and work

  • responded to 32,000 provider queries through our service centre, with increasing positive feedback from the sector
