Appeal for witnesses following death of 17 year old boy in the River Lea

The IPCC is independently investigating the Metropolitan Police Service's response to an incident in which a 17 year old boy died in the River Lea on the evening of Wednesday 29 July 2015.

The full terms of reference for the investigation have yet to be determined, however it will include looking at the actions of officers once the 17 year old entered the water.

IPCC Associate Commissioner Tom Milsom said recently:

"This is a tragic case where a young man has lost his life and I met his family yesterday evening along with an investigator to explain our role and offer our condolences.

"It appears there were a large number of witnesses and we would like them to contact us so we can build as complete a picture of what happened as possible. Our investigators can be contacted on 0800 068 3356 or via LeaBridgeRoad@ipcc.gsi.gov.uk"
