Appointments to the Board of Natural England

Andrew Sells has been reappointed as Chairman of the Board of Natural England until 2020.

The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Andrea Leadsom, has reappointed Andrew Sells as Chairman of the Board of Natural England.

The appointment has been made in accordance with the Ministerial Governance Code on Public Appointments.

Andrew Sells was first appointed Chairman of Natural England in January 2014. He also sits on the Defra Board.

In confirming the reappointment, Secretary of State Andrea Leadsom said:

I value highly the advice Natural England provides and the vital work it carries out to safeguard our environment, which benefits every one of us and supports a modern, sustainable economy.

I am very grateful for Andrew’s leadership, hard work and achievements over his first term and very much look forward to continuing to work with him. As Chairman of Natural England he will have a central role to play in delivering Defra’s strategy, in particular the 25 Year Plan for the Environment.

Andrew Sells said:

I am delighted to be reappointed to a role which I regard as exceptionally important in fulfilling our responsibility to protect and enhance the natural environment. I look forward to ensuring Natural England realises the ambitions of its conservation strategy - Conservation 21 - which supports the government’s aspirations for the environment.

Andrew Sells’ appointment will run from 20 January 2017 until 19 January 2020. He will receive £61,698 per annum based on a time commitment of 113 days.
