BBI Healthcare’s move to new premises will facilitate expansion plans

BBI Healthcare’s move into larger premises has been welcomed by Economy Minister Edwina Hart who said it would secure the long term future growth of the business on Pencoed Technology Park.

After the new facility opening recently (Friday 21 November) the Minister said:

"BBI Healthcare is a made in Wales success story and a great example of an indigenous company that has continued to grow its business in Wales, invest in Wales and invest in the training and development of its staff – which is the key to its on-going success.

“The company is a valued member of the life sciences sector in Wales and a highly supportive member of the Life Sciences Hub Wales. It makes an important contribution to the Welsh economy and Welsh exports and I am delighted the Welsh Government is supporting its expansion and growth plans.”

The company, part of the part of the BBI Group , has moved into newly renovated accommodation – adjacent to its former premises. The new facility provides 7,125 sq ft of office space housing sales, marketing, finance and quality functions, and a 53,875 sq ft warehouse including clean rooms for the safe and regulatory controlled preparation and packing of class III medical devices.

The Welsh Government invested £300,000 in adapting and fitting out the new Unit for BBI Healthcare.

Managing Director and Co-Founder of BBI Healthcare Penny McCormick said:

“In the past eight years we have enjoyed continuous growth, starting as a team of three educating NHS practitioners around the importance of our GlucoGel product for use in instances of low blood sugar, and growing to be a 45-strong team across our sites in Pencoed and Sweden, manufacturing and selling a solid £10m portfolio of prescription and over the counter products.

“Our warehousing and distribution arm has grown to deliver not only our own range, but also third party portfolios to all major UK multiple grocery, high street pharmacy retailers, and pharmacy wholesale, and we recognised the need this year to invest in more space to facilitate our expansion plans.”

Penny McCormick added that the move gave the business a solid foundation to evaluate a number of opportunities with the potential to create further employment.

Pencoed Technology Park, which was acquired by the Welsh Government earlier this year to attract new businesses and jobs to the area, is seen as an ideal business location, minutes from the M4, offering versatile research and development facilities, manufacturing zones, distribution areas and office space.

The BBI Group employs 450 staff across sites in Cardiff, Blaenavon, Dundee, and Kent in the UK, and Wisconsin USA, and Cape Town, South Africa.
