BCS signs CITP agreement with Swedish Computer Society

BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT has signed an agreement with Dataföreningen i Sverige (The Swedish Computer Society, SCS) licencing the Society to award Chartered IT Professional (CITP) status to its members.

CITP status is the benchmark of IT excellence for individuals recognised across the globe. It provides independent verification, not just of skills and competence, but professionalism, leadership and management capabilities. It involves a rigorous assessment which requires demonstration of a breadth of knowledge across the IT profession and a peer review interview to test competence in an area of IT specialism.

Christer Berg, Chairman of The Swedish Computer Society says: “There is a desire in Sweden for recognition of professionalism in IT and we are pleased that SCS members will be able to join members of BCS and other licenced membership bodies, on the register of Chartered IT Professionals. CITP status is a great way to demonstrate the professionalism of our members to their employers and enhance the reputation of the IT profession in Sweden.”

Members of SCS will be assessed against the criteria set out in the standard for Chartered IT Professionals and will agree to abide by a code of conduct approved by BCS. Certified members will also be required to undertake CPD to maintain their competence and their eligibility for continued registration.

This latest agreement between BCS and The Swedish Computer Society demonstrates a commitment to a common definition of professionalism. This is a significant step in promoting the value and importance of CITP to the profession and further enhances the standard’s reputation.”

BCS supports IT professionals throughout their careers, helping them to demonstrate, maintain and develop their competencies and knowledge.
