Best practice of EU countries in the field of integrated border management

On 16-17 June, under the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union the Latvian State Border Guard is organising the 12th meeting of the Eastern Partnership Integrated Border Management Panel.

The security of state borders is a component of national security. The flows of persons and vehicles across state borders need to be controlled by identifying high-risk travellers and cargo and providing surveillance and security on the state borders. In order to control cross-border flows in Latvia and other EU Member States, a state border security policy has been implemented which requires an integrated approach. During the meeting, representatives from the Eastern Partnership countries will exchange views and best practice of the EU Member States in the field of integrated border management.

Meeting agenda includes discussions about issues on the establishment and development of the Integrated Border Management System in the Eastern Partnership countries, best practice in the implementation of this system in the EU Member States, activities under other projects in the Eastern Partnership countries, and information from other European organisations on the initiatives and proposals regarding integrated border management.

The meeting of the Eastern Partnership Integrated Border Management Panel will bring together experts from countries involved in the Eastern Partnership project – Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and Azerbaijan, and the EU Member States.

Since 2009 the Latvian State Border Guard takes an active part in the Eastern Partnership project entitled "Establishment and Development of Integrated Border Management System in Eastern Partnership Countries – Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and Azerbaijan".
