Black Country Living Museum launches resilient leadership programme
Supported by Arts Council England, the Black Country Living Museum in the West Midlands is offering museum professionals the opportunity to take part in its Museums and Resilient Leadership Programme.
Described as ‘inspiring’ and ‘life changing’ by the first cohort of participants in 2013-14, the programme is designed to equip emerging museum leaders to face the challenges of the 21st Century, helping them to be resilient and entrepreneurial.
Drawing on a wealth of UK and international experience, the course offers practical lessons and theoretical insights about leadership from the cultural and commercial sectors. Over 10 months (6 May 2015 – March 25 2016) the programme will include workshops, site visits, residential visits and an overseas study visit.
Participants will benefit from a structured programme led by Stephen Feber and Nick Winterbotham, alongside Michael Day the Chief Executive of the Historic Royal Palaces, international museum consultant Elaine Gurian, finance and governance expert Adrian Babbidge and Andrew Lovett, Director and Chief Executive at the Black Country Living Museum.
With individual support from a programme mentor and specially developed tools, the course will provide structured space for personal reflection and planning.

Applications are open to museum professionals across the country until Tuesday 31 March. The 10 month course is funded by Arts Council England with a small registration cost to participants’ organisations.
Fourteen places are available: five will be selected from the East Midlands, five from the West Midlands and four from elsewhere in England.
