British Transport Police - Police integrity and corruption

Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary has yesterday published its report of an inspection into British Transport Police on police integrity and corruption. It examines the extent to which the force has put in place arrangements to ensure that its workforce acts with integrity.

During a previous HMIC inspection in 2011, we found that few police forces were actively aware of, or were managing, issues of police integrity. We also found a wide variation in levels of understanding of the boundaries in police relationships with others, including the media.

In a subsequent inspection in 2012, while many forces had made some progress, particularly in managing threats to integrity, more needed to be done. The pace of change also needed to increase, not least to demonstrate to the public that the police service was serious about managing integrity issues.
