Bus seminar a top priority
Earlier this month (8 October), we held a Bus Network and Priority seminar for local authorities and stakeholders to address the increasing demand on our road space.
The Bus Network and Priority seminar had more than 100 attendees, bringing together TfL staff with councillors, borough officers, and representatives from London TravelWatch and the Greater London Assembly. This was a great opportunity to bring together all the people who will be working on these priorities.
There were keynote addresses from Mike Weston, Director of Buses alongside Nick Lester, London Councils Corporate Director for Services, and Vincent Stops, Policy Officer, London TravelWatch. Leon Daniels, Managing Director, Surface Transport, closed the event, which was followed by networking.
There were also presentations on a range of topics:
- John Barry, Head of Network Development - PLB presented an overview of bus network development and the programme of work including; planning for longer-term change, 'health checks' of capacity and reliability across the network
- Peter Bradley, Head of Consultation announced a new approach to stakeholder engagement, designed to create a shared list of issues from both the borough and the TfL perspective, such as forthcoming planning approvals or potential bus priority schemes
- Ben Plowden, Director of Surface Strategy & Planning covered our vision for bus priority and the growing need for the programme. He also highlighted the importance of working closely with London borough's to develop schemes and deliver the programme
Leon Daniels, Managing Director of Surface Transport who closed the event, said: 'A close working relationship between TfL and the boroughs will be critical in meeting growing demand on the bus network and maintaining the current quality of service. This seminar was a very important part of maintaining that relationship.'
The seminar also raised awareness of our Accessible Bus Stop Design Guidance consultation. The updated guidance provides advice to those designing and maintaining accessible bus stops and supports our programme to make 95 % of bus stops in London accessible by the end of 2016.
This consultation is open until Friday 31 October, you can provide your comments atwww.tfl.gov.uk/accessible-bus-stops
