Lucy Haynes, CBI London Director, said:

“We congratulate Mr. Khan on his election. London will face opportunities and challenges in equal measure over the next four years, and the Mayor can be confident that business stands ready to work with him to keep the capital a global magnet for investment and skills.

“From the moment he gets his feet under the desk in City Hall, the Mayor must meaningfully address the number one priority for the capital’s firms – the housing shortage. We must see a housing strategy within the Mayor’s first 100 days that commits to building 50,000 homes a year - enabling the city to continue to attract and keep its exceptionally talented workforce.

“With other international cities snapping at London’s heels, the city must outpace its global peers. The new Mayor must firmly press the Government to build a new runway in the South East, step up investment in the capital’s transport infrastructure and support our key growth sectors by ensuring we have the skills for a digital and financial economy. Doing this will send a signal, loud and clear, that the city is open for business and to new opportunities to grow and create jobs.

“We look forward to working with Mr. Khan and the London Assembly on these issues, and to keeping London at the front of the global line.”
