CMA accepts sale of genealogy and needlecraft magazine titles

The CMA has yesterday accepted undertakings from Immediate Media to sell the titles ‘Your Family Tree’, ‘Cross Stitcher’ and ‘Cross Stitch Collection’, and their associated digital versions, to Dennis.

Immediate Media Company Bristol Limited (Immediate Media) offered these undertakings in order to remedy certain competition concerns in the genealogy and needlecraft magazine sectors, which the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) found may arise from Immediate Media’s purchase of a number of magazine titles and associated digital versions from Future Publishing Limited. As a result of the CMA’s acceptance of these undertakings, Immediate Media’s purchase will not be referred for an in-depth phase 2 investigation.

Before accepting the undertakings, the CMA carefully assessed and consulted publicly on the proposed undertakings, including on the suitability of Dennis Publishing Limited (Dennis) as buyer. The CMA did not receive any concerns in response to its public consultation. The CMA is satisfied that the undertakings will resolve the competition concerns identified and that Dennis as purchaser will operate the magazines in competition to Immediate Media.

The undertakings and all other information relating to this investigation can be found on the case page.
