Change is the new normal, says BCS Whitepaper

Business change is now the new normal according to a recent whitepaper published by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT.

Those organisations that fail to transform will be left behind by their competitors. The paper, entitled Leaders for Change: Driving Transformation, also considers the most effective methods for facilitating change - including promoting business analysis, achieving true agility, and prioritising project management - and the pivotal role digital leaders play in achieving this.

Jon Buttriss, CEO, BCS Learning & Development Ltd, part of the Institute says: “Technology is essential to business change and the CIO needs to be the driving force to achieve this. Those that are slow off the mark face the prospect of being out of business - it is imperative that an organisation is not only thinking about the next digital step, but the long-term roadmap for change.

“Almost half of digital leaders now sit on the executive board of their organisations, driving change and influencing the business1. Ensuring that their technology aspirations become a successful reality requires CIOs to employ and develop IT professionals who have strong business acumen as well as the confidence to lead transformation. This is possible through certifications, networking and continued professional development.”

The paper demonstrates the importance of CIOs and digital leaders knowing their current skill landscape and identifying any potential gaps that could affect the success of IT teams delivering business transformation.

The whitepaper, Leaders for Change: Driving Transformation, was written on behalf of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, by former Editor of CIO Connect, Dr Mark Samuels.
