Comedian Ruby Wax packs out NHS Expo conference and talks mindfulness

Comedian Ruby Wax told the NHS Expo conference that mindfulness was a therapy which helped her with depression over the years.

Speaking to a packed audience, the mental health campaigner was interviewed by Freud Memorial Professor of Psychoanalysis University College London Peter Fonagy, and received thanks and congratulations from the audience for her contributions to reducing stigma and raising awareness of mental health issues.

She announced a new Frazzled Café project she is now running to help people with mental ill health get together and meet other people.

Ruby said: “When you have depression you want to show the world you’re perfectly fine. It’s the thinking about stress that really makes you ill. It was a combination of medication and meditation that worked for me. If you can do something on your own a little bit then it gives you a little bit of power.”
