Over £1.5million awarded for work touring to rural neighbourhoods in round 26 of the Arts Council’s Strategic Touring Programme

In some parts of the country, there aren’t as many opportunities for people to see and experience art and culture. This might be because these places are hard to get to, or there aren’t many artists and arts organisations there.

Our Strategic Touring Programme aims to change this. It takes great art and culture to people all over the country, wherever they are.

places where stories are shared, made and enjoyed

In this round of the fund, nine organisations have been awarded £1,543,000. Some of these will be taking their top-quality art and performance to that most loved of community spaces – the pub!

Michelle Dickson, Director of Touring, Arts Council England, said: “It’s vital that no one is deprived of excellent art and culture just because of where they live. Social spaces are incredibly important for any community: these places where stories are shared, made and enjoyed.

“We’re really glad to see organisations thinking creatively around this, and I’m sure it will lead to a legacy of fantastic art and new audiences everywhere.”
