Commission welcomes appointment of new Commissioner for Wales

Welcoming the Secretary of State and Minister for Women and Equalities’ decision to appoint June Milligan as the new EHRC Wales Commissioner, Rebecca Hilsenrath, Chief Executive of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, said:

'We are delighted to welcome June Milligan to the EHRC’s Board of Commissioners. Her  knowledge and experience from previous leadership roles and passion for equality and diversity issues makes her a great fit for the role.'

'June will strengthen the Commission’s board and also provide a powerful voice for greater fairness in Wales, and I look forward to working with her.'

June Milligan said: 

'I am delighted to be appointed as the EHRC Commissioner for Wales. The Equality and Human Rights Commission plays a vital role in ensuring fairness, dignity and respect for people throughout Great Britain. I look forward to working with the EHRC Wales team and with all those organisations and people in Wales who share that practical commitment to promoting equality and human rights.'

June Milligan has a strong track record as a champion for equality and human rights in Wales. We are delighted that she has been appointed to the EHRC Board as Commissioner for Wales.

Dr June Milligan’s biography

June Milligan draws her experience and insight from a wide range of leadership roles in public service, including as a Governor in long-term and maximum security prisons, as a Diplomat representing the UK to the European institutions in Brussels, and as a Ministerial policy adviser and Principal Private Secretary.

Most recently June served as a Board Member of the devolved Government in Wales, with responsibilities as Director General and Accounting Officer for Local Government and Communities, and for leading and championing Equality and Diversity.

June is currently a Trustee of the Young Foundation, and a lay member of the governing body of the University of Glasgow.
