Commonwealth Games legacy continues

Legacy funding for 2016-17 awarded to five Active Legacy Partners.

A range of projects have been awarded Commonwealth Games Legacy funding to encourage Scots to stay active.

The 2016-17 funding, worth £748,000, has been awarded to five Active Legacy partners to deliver a wide range of benefits across Scotland. These are:

  • Street Soccer Scotland
  • Young Scot
  • Clyde Gateway
  • Spirit of 2012
  • Creative Scotland

The money will be used to build on Legacy programmes and help deliver a programme of activity which will continue to remove barriers and encourage Scots to become more physically active.

Minister for Public Health and Sport Aileen Campbell announced the 2016-17 awards during a visit to Ettrick Forest Archers in Selkirk, which has also benefited from Legacy funding ‎through the Legacy Active Places Fund. She said:

“I’m delighted to be here on the second anniversary of the best ever Commonwealth Games to announce the latest round of Legacy funding.

“We know how important an active lifestyle is for both our physical and mental health, so it’s fantastic to see communities right across Scotland embrace the Games legacy and come together to deliver projects that are helping people become more active.

“This latest round of funding provides the opportunity to continue to build on the great work the Active Legacy Partners have already done and keep delivering a wide range of benefits across Scotland.”

CEO of Young Scot, Louise MacDonald said:

“The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games made a huge impression on the young people of Scotland and they continue to play a key role in the huge success of the Games Legacy. We are excited to continue our partnership with the Scottish Government’s Legacy team to support active lifestyles through our Active Rewards programme.

“We recognise how important it is to ensure that the lasting legacy of the Games continues by providing young people with opportunities to engage and lead activity, remove barriers to participation and recognise their achievements.”

2016-17 Active Legacy Funding Package

Five Active Legacy Partners (Street Soccer Scotland, Young Scot, Clyde Gateway, Spirit of 2012 and Creative Scotland) have been awarded £748,000 to develop new and existing activity projects.

Legacy 2014 Active Places Fund

The Legacy Active Places Fund is a Scottish Government Legacy supported project managed bysportscotland. In total, 188 projects across all 32 of Scotland’s local authorities have been awarded funding from the £10 million Active Places Fund.

Ettrick Forest Archers

Ettrick Forest Archers were awarded £12,044 in the fifth (final) round of the Legacy 2014 Active Places Fund towards the creation of a clubhouse/storage facility.
