On 27 April Mr. Uldis Augulis, the Minister for Welfare, will open the conference on health and safety at work From the strategic framework towards effective implementation – OSH can be simple and entertaining, which is organised during the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The conference will take place on 27-28 April and will focus on essential aspects of health and safety at work. The Good Practice Award ceremony of the European campaign Healthy Workplaces Manage Stress organised by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work will take place during the conference.

The conference will focus on the practical aspects related to active implementation of the European Commission’s Communication on the Strategic Framework for Safety and Health at Work 2014-2020. The latest statistics and survey results regarding the health and safety situation in European undertakings will be presented to conference participants. At the same time the participants will discuss further actions aimed at improvement of working conditions, in particular, in micro and small companies. Interactive tools (for example, games and applications) that can be used for improving the knowledge on occupational health and safety, including mainstreaming of these issues into educational programs will be presented in parallel with the plenary sessions.

The second day of the conference will focus on practical aspects of efficient implementation of issues related to safety and health at work, including the new methods of dissemination of information, use of social media and videos.

Representatives from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Employment, the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, EU institutions, international organisations as well as representatives of academia will participate in the conference. Among the conference participants there will also be representatives of employers’ and workers’ organisations and governments of EU Member States, candidate countries and European Economic Area countries.

The conference is co-financed by the European Commission (EaSi-PROGRESS Program 2015). It will be held in Riga, at 24 Elizabetes iela, “Tallink” Hotel, and will be broadcast live on www.eu2015.lv.
