Contactless journeys reach one million

More than a million journeys have been made using contactless payment since it was launched on Tuesday 16 September 2014.

The new way to pay can be usedon the Tube, trams, DLR, London Overground and National Rail services that accept Oyster, as well as buses in London.

Five percent of all pay as you go journeys are now made using contactless payment, with Canary Wharf, Oxford Circus, London Bridge, Victoria and Liverpool Street being the most popular Underground stations for its use.

TfL's Director of Customer Experience, Shashi Verma, said: 'It is really encouraging to see over one million contactless journeys on transport across the Capital. We want travelling in London to be as easy and convenient for our customers as possible and contactless is one of the steps we have taken to make that happen.'

The new technology makes paying for transport easier than ever - customers with a contactless debit or credit card simply have to touch their card on the reader. There is no need to sign up for an online account, but people who choose to will be able to see 12 months of their journey and payment history.

Customers who don't have an online account can still access their journey and payment history, but only for the last seven days.
