Council Tax in Wales is significantly lower than in England

Council Tax in Wales remains significantly lower than in England according to new figures published yesterday.

The Welsh Government release shows that average Band D council tax for Wales in 2015-16 will be £1,328, much lower than the average of £1,484 in England.

The Welsh Government has also maintained its support to the 300,000 households that need help to pay their council tax bills.

Welsh tax payers will pay £52 a year more from April for a Band D council tax, an increase of 4.1%.

Public Services Minister, Leighton Andrews said:

“We have protected local government in Wales from the worst of the Westminster Government’s cuts for the past 5 years.

“Despite the pressure on council services, Council Tax in Wales is still on average £156 per year lower than in England.”
