Cultural export and exchange: our new International programmes

Yesterday we opened two new International funds: International Showcasing and Re:Imagine India.

Over 2015-18 we'll invest £18 million in cultural export and exchange, promoting the best of English arts and culture overseas and bringing outstanding work from abroad to English audiences.

As part of this, the two funds we opening yesterday are:

The £1.5 million Re:Imagine India fund – part of the Re:Imagine Arts programme led by the British Council - will help artists and organisations gain experience and build networks, in England and India, as we approach the 70th anniversary of Indian independence in 2017.

Sir Peter Bazalgette, Chair Arts Council England said: “Our world class arts and culture scene is a fantastic showcase for our creative talent overseas, and payback to the British economy through exports and increased tourism. These Cultural Export and Exchange funds mean audiences in England will benefit from the results of exchange and collaboration between the best artists here and around the world. Working with the British Council and UKTI means we can back the best ideas from across the country.”

Graham Sheffield, Director Arts, British Council said: “The British Council is delighted to be working with Arts Council England and UKTI to open up these new opportunities for British institutions and artists and for new international collaborations. Our firm belief is that by sharing the best of British culture with audiences around the world in this way we present the UK as an attractive destination for tourism, education and investment.  Beyond that, the arts and cultural understanding make a vital contribution to global prosperity and security. ”
