Department of Health has now launched the CQC Chair recruitment campaign

The Department of Health has yesterday begun the process of recruiting and appointing for the role of a new Chair for CQC.

The role become vacant when David Prior stood down to become Baron Prior of Brampton in the House of Lords and take on the role of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health in May this year.

It is the Secretary of State for Health's responsibility to appoint the new Chair to the Care Quality Commission. The Chair of the CQC is a key appointment and requires an individual of exceptional calibre to challenge, provide direction and enable CQC to be a first-class regulator.

The Secretary of State for Health will determine the length of appointment, which will be for up to a maximum of four years.

The appointment will be subject to pre-appointment scrutiny by the Health Select Committee, and the successful candidate will be expected to appear in public before the committee, prior to confirmation of appointment.

Applications close on the 30 of September, information on how to apply can be found though theCabinet Office website.
