Digital Economy Minister co-chairs first Cyber Growth Partnership meeting

New partnership to provide oversight and strategic guidance to Government on the development of the UK cyber security sector.

Digital Economy Minister Matt Hancock co-chaired the first meeting of the Cyber Growth Partnership (CGP) alongside Gavin Patterson, CEO of BT, in one of his first engagements as a minister at the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.

The partnership will provide oversight and strategic guidance to Government on the development of the UK cyber security sector.

Cyber firms, academics, investors and users debated a number of initiatives at the event including the Government’s commitment to doubling its investment in cyber security to £1.9bn over the next five years.

They also noted Government, industry, academia and other stakeholders need to work together to make sure the UK’s cyber security sector has the best possible conditions to innovate and grow.

Government’s plans to develop two Cyber Security Innovation Centres, which will play a key role in helping make sure the UK can develop the products and services it needs, were also on the agenda.

The Minister offered his support to the partnership and is keen to engage with industry and academia to support the growth of the UK cyber security sector.

Members of the Cyber Growth Partnership include AstraZeneca, Atkins Global, Amadeus Capital Partners, BAE AI, Barclays, Becrypt, BT, Centre for Secure Information Technology (CSIT), Cisco, Digital Shadows, Garrison Technology, KPMG and techUK.
