Digital First outlines next steps towards digital nation
The Welsh Government has yesterday published its vision for public services in Wales to provide consistent and excellent services digitally.
Digital First outlines the next steps to be taken to create the environment to provide excellent online services for the people and businesses of Wales.
Steps include identifying and adopting best practice from within Wales, the UK and across the world, using the new .cymru and .wales domain names as default by the public sector and making use of common platforms.
Successful projects delivered digitally to date include Rural Payments Wales, the online service developed in close collaboration with stakeholders including farmers, farming agents and farming unions to make sure it met customer needs. In 2014 almost a third of Single Application Forms were submitted online.
My Local School, a digital service designed to provide access to schools’ data for parents and anyone else with an interest in their local school, is also an example of successful digital transformation. The service provides a single point of contact for a wealth of data, ranging from performance data to staff and finance information.
Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology Julie James said yesterday:
“There is a growing trend of consumer expectation that services, whether they are delivered by the public or private sector, should be available at any time, anywhere and accessible digitally through an increasing range of devices.
“There are numerous examples of digital service delivery developing through the efforts of multiple organisations across the public sector in Wales. I’m very pleased today to announce the publication of Digital First which sets out the Welsh Government’s vision to enable responsive, consistent and excellent public services through transformed digital delivery.”
