Drug dealers hide over £300,000 in chest of drawers

Two men have been sentenced to serve a combined total of 11 years 8 months in prison after being found guilty of laundering more than £600,000.

Shwan Abubaker (38) from Derby and Altin Nase (41) from London, were arrested by officers from the joint Organised Crime Partnership (OCP) in July 2015.

They were initially stopped in their car for a drugs search. However, when the vehicle was searched, officers found a large black holdall on the back seat which contained approximately £269,000.

Abubaker was identified as the driver and when he was searched, officers found of an additional £2,000 cash. Nase was found to be in possession of a key fob which would later lead officers to a flat in East London.

When the flat was searched, investigators found two kilos of cocaine – with a potential street value of over £440,000 - in a holdall in the bottom of a wardrobe and an additional £300,500 cash in two separate chests of drawers.

The following day Abubaker was charged with one count of money laundering and Nase two counts of money laundering and possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply. They were remanded in custody.

Both Nase and Abubaker pleaded guilty at Blackfriars Crown Court recently and were sentenced to 9 years and two years 8 months respectively.

Matt McMillan from the Organised Crime Partnership said:

“Both Abubaker and Nase were involved in laundering money all around the UK and their brazen approach – transporting and being in possession of large quantities of cash – showed they thought they were below the radar of law enforcement.

“Officers from the OCP will continue to intercept drugs and disrupt organised criminals from accessing the proceeds of their crime.”

The total amount of money seized as a result of this investigation was £626,000.

The OCP brings together officers from the National Crime Agency and the Metropolitan Police Service to protect the communities of London from the harms inflicted by drug dealing. The OCP was formerly known as the Middle Market Drugs Partnership (MMDP).
