Dylan Thomas film - a showcase for Welsh talent

Set Fire To The Stars – the film adaptation of a novel detailing Dylan Thomas’ time in New York, was filmed entirely in Wales.

The film, starring Elijah Wood and Celyn Jones in the lead roles, was described by Economy Minister Edwina Hart as another great showcase for Welsh talent.

Set Fire to the Stars was filmed on location in Swansea Bay and at facilities in Bay Studios, Fabian Way. Welsh Government funding support of £48,000 ensured the majority of the work was undertaken in Wales.

It brought an additional £325,000 into the local economy and created work and employment for local businesses and freelancers.

The Minister said:

“I am pleased to hear the film used a lot of Welsh talent with post production work, sound mixing and soundtrack work carried out by Welsh firms while it also provided work for many freelancers.

“I’m also pleased to hear that during  the centenary celebrations of his birth, this latest film on Dylan Thomas is creating much interest and generating a lot of publicity in the media and another great showcase for Welsh talent.”

Producer A J Riach said:

“It was a huge privilege to work with such an incredible and talented team in Swansea Bay, from trainees right through to the very experienced heads of department, I would love to come back and shoot another movie in Wales. The Welsh Government and Its Ffilm Cymru have been incredible on this project and we thoroughly appreciate all of there support.“

The film, which was co-produced by YJB Films, had special screenings in Cardiff and Swansea ahead of its general release and is now on a 13 week run in national cinemas. The trailer also featured on the front page of IMDB, the Worlds largest film database.
