Eid Mubarak

First Minister sends Eid Mubarak greetings.

Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond said:

"Scotland is currently welcoming people from around the world to enjoy the Commonwealth Games. It’s the greatest cultural and sporting festival that this country has ever seen.

"During this great international celebration here in Scotland, I’m delighted to wish all of our Muslim friends – in Scotland, across the Commonwealth, and around the world - “Eid Mubarak”

"Eid marks a joyous end to Ramadan’s month of fasting and spiritual renewal. It is a festival characterised by charitable giving; generous hospitality; and spending time with family and friends.

"The values demonstrated by Eid - compassion, community and solidarity – are ones which are shared by people of all faiths and none. They are deeply rooted in Scottish society.

"And so Eid is an occasion of immense importance to all Muslims. And it’s also a time when everyone in Scotland, can reflect on the contribution the Muslim community - like so many other faith communities - makes to our modern nation.

"And so as you celebrate over these three days, I wish all of you, “Eid Mubarak”."
