Enjoy Africa on the Square this weekend

Mayor Sadiq Khan will join the celebrations, offering the best in African music, food and entertainment.

Head to Trafalgar Square this Saturday for the free event and sample the traditions and cultures of Africa.

It will be the focal point of the Mayor's Black History Month celebrations and the line-up of acts on stage reflects the diversity of the Capital's African communities, with artists from South Africa, Mozambique, Burundi, Nigeria, Congo and Algeria.

Among the other attractions will be a young talent showcase, with a prize for the winner, plus special performances from the finalists of MOBO UnSung, an initiative that identifies new artists.

Africa Fashion Week London will direct an exclusive show featuring designers from the contemporary African UK fashion scene, as well as new up and coming names.

And an African market will offer everything from fashion and arts to food stalls.

There will also be a host of activities for children and families, too, including hair braiding, face-painting and mosaic-making.

Mayor Sadiq Khan said: 'Throughout October I will be joining Londoners from all backgrounds at a variety of events across the city to pay tribute to our African and African Caribbean communities and all they have done to add to the life of the Capital, helping to make it one of the most vibrant and successful places on the planet.

'In London, we do not just tolerate each other's differences, we respect and celebrate them and for me, that's what Black History Month is all about.'
