Exhibition explores plant life in modern art

Throughout history, artists have captured the beauty and power of nature and the world around us in their creations. A new exhibition from the Arts Council Collection is bringing together art that investigates the links between people and plants by some of Britain’s best contemporary artists.

Plant Culture is open at Attenborough Arts Centre in Leicester from Saturday 23 July until Sunday 25 September.

It features artists including by Turner Prize winners Gilbert & George and Simon Staling and Turner Prize nominee Anya Gallaccio.

Work by other well-known artists will also be on display, including Andy Goldsworthy, Annie Descoteaux, Georgie Hopton, Hayley Newman, Janice Kerbel, John Newling, John Stezaker, Lois Weinberg, Marc Quinn and Mat Collishaw.

The artworks have been selected from the Arts Council Collection alongside work by international artists and items on loan from the British Council’s art collection.

Known as the nation’s art lending library, the Arts Council Collection is the UK’s most widely seen collection of modern art.

Its touring exhibitions give new audiences opportunities to see and enjoy art by some of Britain’s best contemporary artists.
