FDA supports PASC’s recommendation for a new approach to civil service pay
The House of Commons Public Administration Select Committee (PASC) has today called for a civil service pay and reward system that will retain people in jobs in which they are most needed.
The Committee has urged the Government to apply an approach of "finding more intelligent ways of solving problems and making efficient use of funding" to its policy on civil service pay.
It warns that "if this is not done the civil service will needlessly lose expensively gained skills and knowledge that it will struggle to replace."
The Committees warning comes less than a week after the publication of the report of the Senior Salaries Review Body, which included an admission from the Government that "there remains some concern about our ability to recruit key staff of the right calibre due to uncompetitive reward packages and that we may not be able to hold onto talented people as the economy improves".
Commenting on the publication of the PASC report, FDA General Secretary Dave Penman said:
"We welcome PASC's support for action on pay. The evidence for taking action is compelling if we are to avoid an "exodus" of the skilled and talented people most needed to deliver the new administration's challenging programme for Government.
"As PASC recommends, this needs to be a priority for the incoming Government in May".
