File to go to CPS following Jermaine Baker investigation
The IPCC investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of Jermaine Baker in north London on 11 December 2015 is now complete and a file of evidence will be given to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
Mr Baker died as the result of a single gunshot wound during a Metropolitan Police operation in Bracknell Close, Wood Green.
IPCC Commissioner Cindy Butts said:
"Following a criminal investigation the IPCC must decide whether or not to refer the matter to the Crown Prosecution Service.
"On the basis of the evidence we gathered during our homicide investigation, there is an indication a criminal offence may have been committed. I will be submitting our evidence to the CPS for it to decide whether or not to bring a prosecution. The evidence relates to the actions of the firearms officer who shot Mr Baker."
All concerned parties have been notified.
A referral to the CPS is made when the IPCC investigation indicates that a criminal offence may have been committed. It does not mean that criminal charges will necessarily follow. The CPS will decide whether charges should be brought, based on the test set out in the Code for Crown Prosecutors.
