Find the Fun Palace at Stratford station

A large major artwork dedicated to theatre director Joan Littlewood is drawing crowds at Stratford Underground station.

Entitled The Palace that Joan Built, the display is exhibited on the station's mezzanine floor and celebrates the centenary of the stage director who was seen as a visionary in the theatre world.

The installation was commissioned by Art on the Underground and created by Mel Brimfield and Gwyneth Herbert.

It examines the life and legacy of Joan Littlewood and her company, the Theatre Workshop, which adopted the Theatre Royal Stratford East as its home for 20 years from the mid-1950s.

The exhibition is one of several installations produced by artists to mark the event across the country under the banner of 'Fun Palaces'.

It will be on display at Stratford until April 2016.
