First Minister announces funding to promote the Welsh Language for 2015-16

The First Minister of Wales Carwyn Jones has recently announced a significant package of financial support to help promote the Welsh language across Wales during 2015-16.

A total of 34 organisations will benefit from roll over funding of £3.6 million to promote the Welsh Language during the next financial year, building on the success of the grant in 2014-15. Organisations include the Mentrau Iaith, Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru, Merched y Wawr and Urdd Gobaith Cymru.
 
The Mentrau Iaith will also receive a minimum core funding of £60,000 each for 2015-16 additional funding available to increase the baseline funding for the Mentrau Iaith. In addition, the National Eisteddfod are set to receive a further grant of £60,000 to deliver new Welsh language music projects.  
 
The First Minister also announced the 12 successful projects which will benefit from the Bwrw Mlaen £300,000 Innovation Fund during the next financial year. The projects will promote and provide opportunities to use Welsh beyond the school gates and in everyday life.
 
First Minister said:
“This is a significant package of financial support which will help promote the Welsh Language in towns and communities across Wales during 2015-16. As a Government, we want to ensure a vibrant, living language and this funding will help us deliver the commitments at the heart of Bwrw Mlaen.”
“We want to encourage people to have the confidence to use the Welsh language in their daily lives and in their local communities. This funding package will help do just that. It will develop new, different and exciting projects which support Welsh language activities at grassroot level and expand the opportunities available.”
