First Minister at Conveners’ Group

Record of achievement and vision to be set out.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will outline the Scottish Government’s strong record of achievement as well as her vision for the future today (Wednesday) as she takes questions from a cross-party group of committee conveners in the Scottish Parliament.

The First Minister said she welcomed the opportunity to engage with the Conveners’ Group as she continues the process of engagement around her programme for government – A Stronger Scotland – published earlier this month.

The First Minister said:

“The measures set out in my programme for government build on our strong record of achievement, setting out a vision for how we can take Scotland forward in the coming years.

“The government’s programme outlines how we will make Scotland the best place in the UK to do business, create a fairer country and protect the public services that we all cherish. At its centre is a commitment to raise attainment in our schools and ensure that every child in this country is afforded the same opportunities to flourish.

A Stronger Scotland also set outs our approach to government, continuing my ambition for us to be the most open and accessible government this country has ever had. I welcome the opportunity to continue this engagement at the Conveners’ Group, opening up our proposals to scrutiny and ensuring we remain truly accountable to parliament.

“The Scottish Parliament’s committees do extremely important work, and last year’s session with the conveners was extremely valuable, allowing me to identify areas where we could work together and highlighting constructive feedback on our proposals. I hope the constructive discussions continue today.”
