Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Local Government Mark Drakeford has laid the Welsh Government’s first Supplementary Budget 2016-17 before the National Assembly of Wales.

The Supplementary Budget outlines the way the Final Budget 16-17, which was agreed by the Assembly on the 8th of March, has been adjusted to reflect the portfolios of the new Cabinet.  It also confirms funding commitments by the previous administration, including funding for flood defences, Higher Education Funding Council for Wales and repairs to the Brecon and Monmouthshire canal.

The National Assembly will debate the Supplementary Budget on 12th July.

Mark Drakeford said yesterday:  

“As a government, we want to be clear about our funding priorities and decisions.  It is also important to get on with the normal business of Government and that is why, in line with established practice, I am today laying a first Supplementary Budget for 2016-17.

“This Supplementary Budget highlights the funding we’ve allocated this financial year to the portfolios of our new Cabinet and also confirms some of the funding decisions taken by the previous administration. 

“Our budget preparations have now started in earnest for 2017-18 to take forward the Government’s priorities to build a united, connected and sustainable country.”
