Foreign Secretary welcomes progress towards peace in Ukraine

Boris Johnson hails as a good start the signing of a framework agreement for the disengagement of forces in eastern Ukraine.

The Organisation for Security and Co-Operation in Europe (OSCE), Ukraine and Russia (the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk) have signed a framework agreement for the disengagement of forces in eastern Ukraine. This agrees measures to remove combatants and heavy weapons from three pilot zones: Stanytsia Luhanska and Zolote, in the Luhansk region, and Petrivske in Donetsk.

Following the signing of the agreement Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said:

I welcome the signing of a framework agreement on the disengagement of forces in eastern Ukraine. This is a good start but all sides now need to meet their commitments so that a full, comprehensive and sustained ceasefire is realised. This is fundamental to any further progress towards peace in eastern Ukraine. The UK will work hard with all parties to help turn this into a reality.
