Former South Wales Police Officer convicted of two counts of rape

A former South Wales Police (SWP) officer has been found guilty of two counts of rape of women. The conviction of Jeffrey Davies at Newport Crown Court yesterday follows an investigation by SWP, managed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Mr Davies, 45, was formerly a detective constable with SWP but was dismissed from the force in 2013 after being convicted of other sexual assaults. The rape allegations from two separate women followed publicity from the earlier sexual offences case.

Mr Davies was convicted yesterday of raping a woman in 2002 whom he met through work and drove up to the Bwlch mountain to have sexual intercourse with her against her will. He was also convicted of raping a separate woman with whom he had had a brief relationship after turning up at her home one evening in 2003. Both offences were committed while he was a serving officer in the Rhondda.

IPCC Commissioner for Wales, Jan Williams, said: “We have closely managed the robust investigation by South Wales Police which has preceded yesterday’s outcome in court. Jeffrey Davies was a sex offender hiding within the police service, who committed fundamental breaches of the trust placed in him as a serving officer. He has again been brought to justice for crimes against vulnerable women, and I commend their fortitude in coming forward. ”

Mr Davies will be sentenced at a later date.
