Former South Wales Police officer charged with rape

A former South Wales Police officer has been charged with two counts of rape of women. Jeffrey Davies, 44, is to appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court today.

The alleged offences took place during 2002 and 2003 when Mr Davies was a detective constable in the force.

An investigation into the allegations was carried out by South Wales Police, managed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.  The decision to charge was authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Mr Davies is no longer a serving police officer.
