Free Diwali festivities at Trafalgar Square

With an explosion of colour and music, the Diwali festival is returning to London this Sunday.

Whether it's the chance to don a sari, learn a Bollywood dance or get a henna tattoo, Diwali brings together all communities for a day of free fun in Trafalgar Square.

The event, which is supported by the Mayor, includes a vast array of activities from lively music and dance, to delicious food and drink.

The celebrations start with a colourful procession from the South Bank which will make its way to the heart of the festival where children will perform a set dance piece on the main steps of Trafalgar Square. The parade will symbolise the themes of this year's festival: the legacies of valour, unity and sacrifice in pursuit of peace and freedom.

Throughout the day, a range of stalls will sell a variety of vegetarian food and non-alcoholic drinks. There will also be plenty of chances to stock up on Indian essentials - exotic jewellery, spices, rangoli, ayurvedic products and more.

Diwali is known as the 'Festival of Lights' and is observed by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains in India and many other countries around the world.

Nearest Tube/rail station is Charing Cross.
