From Mon to Milan #Expo2015

Welsh food and drink will be centre-stage at one of the world’s largest international exhibitions this week, as a Welsh Government delegation visits the Milan Expo 2015.

Food and Drink Wales will be attending the Expo between 4 and 8 May, and will be featuring a showcase aimed at promoting our wonderful produce and educating the audience on its history, provenance and value to the Welsh economy.

Rebecca Evans, Deputy Minister for Farming and Food said:

“It is important for Wales to be part of global events like Milan Expo. This is a fantastic platform to show the world what we produce here in Wales and how we are working with our industry to sustainably grow the sector.

“I am pleased we have been able to support so many of our talented Welsh food businesses to attend and look forward to hearing about how our great Welsh produce is received.”

The Milan Expo, part of the Universal Exposition series, will run from 1 May to 31 October 2015 and has a core theme of ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’. Over the six-month period, Milan will become the global showcase for more than 140 participating countries all with the aim of finding ways to secure healthy, safe and sufficient food for everyone, while respecting the planet and its equilibrium.

In addition to the exhibitor nations, the Expo also hosts international organisations like the UN, and expects to welcome over 20 million visitors to its 1.1 million square meters of exhibition area.

Our presence in Milan, and this prestigious event, will allow us to promote Wales on the world stage as well as the provenance of our products, which will help increase sales and grow our food businesses as outlined in our Food and Drink Action Plan.
