Funding boost for aerospace supply chain companies

The Welsh Government has allocated £100,000 to help Welsh aerospace suppliers up their game and participate in the Supply Chain 21st Century (SC21) continuous improvement programme.

Commitment to SC21 is becoming a mandatory requirement for businesses wanting to enter or to remain in the supply chain of Tier 1 companies and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)  in the aerospace sector.

SC21 is the aerospace sector’s programme of choice for continuous improvement and designed to accelerate competitiveness in the global marketplace and raise the performance of supply chains.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart said:

“We have a strong aerospace supply chain in Wales so it is important that companies supplying the Tier 1 companies are aware of these requirements. The Welsh Government and Aerospace Wales Forum will be promoting and raising awareness of the SC21 programme with funding available to help businesses take their first step on the journey of continuous improvement.”

The funding will support around twenty companies to take the first steps towards the SC21 Continuous Improvement programme with the Welsh Government providing 50% of the costs of joining the scheme.

Supported by ADS - the SC21 governing body, Augusta Westland, Airbus, GKN Aerospace and Meggitt, the Welsh Government and Aerospace Wales will be holding a series of awareness events in the autumn to promote SC21 and provide information on the  funding support available.
