Summary

The Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) working in partnership with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and Innovate UK is to invest up to £25m in collaborative research and development that supports the delivery of the priorities set out in the joint industry and Government industrial strategy for aerospace.

Projects must be aligned with the four technology pillars that form the basis of the ATI strategy – aerodynamics, propulsion, aerostructures and advanced systems. Proposals must be collaborative and business-led and include at least one SME partner. We are particularly targeting smaller businesses. However, the participation of major manufacturers or suppliers is encouraged where it will accelerate exploitation of the project outputs. We expect to fund mainly industrial research projects in which a business partner will generally attract up to 50% public funding for their project costs (60% for SMEs) or experimental development with a business partner attracting 25% public funding for their costs (35% for SMEs). Overall, each project cannot attract more than 50% public funding of the total eligible project cost.

We expect total project size to range between £1m and £5m. We may consider larger projects but applicants should contact us directly before making their application to discuss further.

Projects must last no more than three years.

This is a two-stage competition that opens for applicants on 20 October 2014. The deadline for registration is noon on 21 January 2015 and the deadline for expressions of interest is noon on 28 January 2015.
